How to Install a Dial-Up Connection in Windows 2000
On most Microsoft Windows operating systems you should be able to use the automatic dial-up installation tool on the home page, however this guide shows you how to configure your settings manually on Windows 2000.
Please note, this guide only covers configuring the dialup connection itself. It does not provide information on installation and setup of your modem hardware. For assistance with this please contact either your modem or PC manufacturer.
- On the Windows Start menu, select 'Settings', then select 'Network and Dial-up Connections'.
- Double click the 'Make New Connection' icon.
- A dialogue box (as shown below) will open which will welcome you to the Network Connection Wizard, click 'next'.

- The 'Select Connection Type' dialogue box will appear (as shown below). Select 'Dial-up to the Internet' and click 'Next'.

- Select 'I want to set up my Internet connection manually', and click 'Next'.
- Select 'I connect through a phone line and a modem'. Click 'Next'.
- Type 0844 535 0200 into the 'Telephone number' box (leave the area code blank). Ensure that the 'Use area code and dialing rules box' is unchecked. Click next.

- Type 'internetforfree' into the 'user name' box and 'freeinternet' in the 'password' box. Click 'Next'.
- In the 'Connect Name' box type a name to identify this connection. For example, 'InternetForFree'. Click 'Next'.
- A new dialogue page may be displayed asking if you wish to setup an Internet Mail Account. If this appears, select No and click 'Next'.
- A dialogue box will be shown telling you that the connection has been successfully created. Click 'finish'.
Your connection should now be ready for use.
